Mumbai, 26thSept, 2012(Sachin Murdeshwar): Retina India, a national nonprofit trust, is proud to announce the launch of the first ever internet portal www.seshpath.org in India dedicated to helping visually challenged students locate volunteers, or scribes, as they are called, to assist them in their educational pursuits.
The portal aims to overcome the difficulties that such students face in getting a scribe for their exams. Both scribes and students can register on the portal, thus making it easy for all concerned to locate and reach out to one other, even at short notice. The site caters to other differently-abled individuals as well.
Speaking on the occasion of the launch, the Sheriff of Mumbai, Dr, Indu Shahani who is also the first volunteer reader to register on the portal, said, “I am delighted to be associated as a volunteer to this initiative, the students of our college will also be the first volunteers to www.seshpath.org
Retina India Trustee Arvind Bhartiya, while describing the objectives and functionality of SeshPath.org, said, “ We find it very difficult to get volunteers to help visually impaired students, for this we need people who are forthcoming in helping out. The need of the hour is to cure your mind to cure your body, helping others is a way to cure your mind, so for this there has to be a mentality shift to go and help out. “ .”
Retina India is working on both clinical and social fronts, focused on making a difference in the country through supporting innovative research and development, as well as helping visually challenged people make a difference to their lives, said Behram Sethna, Retina India Trustee. We need to come together to help and support these visually challenged students in the country, said Meenakshi Jain, Trustee, Retina India. She encouraged everyone to support the cause in every way possible.
With India being home to the largest number of blind population in the world, a significant number of whom are children, seshpath.org aims to bridge a huge gap in assisting those who are keen on studying and attempting competitive examinations for schools and colleges.
Other dignitaries present on this occasion were Tech Mahindra Vice President HR C Krishnadas, Mamtha Sharma, Manager Corporate Citizenship & Corporate Affairs, IBM- India, and NASSCOM Foundation Associate Vice President Gauri Raverkar, all of whom lauded this first of its kind initiative in the country by Retina India.
Apart from the portal, Retina India also has a number of other initiatives primarily aimed at bringing patients, families, experts and researchers to a common platform to enable them to work more efficiently in finding a holistic solution.

Mumbai, 27 September 2012(Sachin Murdeshwar): Arvind Lifestyle Brands, subsidiary of Arvind Ltd, one of the largest players in the apparel brands and retail space, announced the acquisition of the business operations of British fashion retailers Debenhams and Next and American Lifestyle Brand Nautica in India from Plant Retail.
Announcing the acquisition, Mr. Sanjay Lalbhai, Chairman & Managing Director of Arvind Limited said, “This acquisition is a significant milestone as it signals our entry into the Department Store Segment and also the globally fast growing apparel specialty retail segment. American Sportswear Lifestyle Brand Nautica makes us the dominant player in the sportswear segment. These acquisitions will accelerate our growth and contribute to our vision of achieving sales of Rs. 5000 crores over the next 5 years.”
“We have a strong menswear portfolio, which will get further strengthened with Nautica. Debenhams & Next will substantially strengthen our position in Womenswear&Kidswear segment. We plan to achieve Rs. 500 cr revenue over next 5 years from current Rs, 70 crores by investing Rs. 150 crores in to these three brands” said J. Acquisition of Debenhams signals the entry of Arvind into the Bridge to Luxury Department Store segment. Arvind plans to increase the current number of Debenhams stores in India from 2 to 8 in the next 3 years. Arvind will enter into the fast growing segment of apparel specialty retail through Next. Arvind plans to increase to increase number of next stores from 3 to 12 in the next 3 years.
The spokesperson from Debenhams said, “ I’m very excited by the new chapter to be written together with Arvind, who are a very solid and experienced retail group with a fantastic reputation. I’m confident that within the next 5 years, we’ll have 8 fabulous Debenhams stores in 5 of India’s biggest cities’.
Commenting on the acquisition, spokesperson from Next said, “We are very positive about the new franchise partnership and are looking forward to Arvind Brands re-launching the next brand in India."
The licensing arrangement with Nautica will strengthen Arvind’s already strong position in high potential sportswear segment of the market. The company plans to set up additional 30 Nautica stores taking the tally to 41 free standing Nautica stores and 71 shop in shops in the next 3 years.

By 2030, almost 23.6 million people will die from heart disease and stroke estimates the world Health Organization. Mumbai 27 September 2012.(Sachin Murdeshwar):On the service tax regime, Mr Sushil Solanki, IRS, Commissioner of Service Tax said, “There has been a paradigm shift in the direct tax amendments and any service provided from companies small or big will be subject to direct tax.” Commenting on the Service tax regime he said, “The need was to introduce a transparent system in the GST where the taxpayer will know exactly how much tax he is paying. To bring about the same transparency in Service tax, the new regime of negative list in service tax has been introduced”, at the Seminar on Tax Amendments organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII). Grant Thornton India LLP, a leading audit, tax and advisory firm as knowledge partner at this seminar.
It focused on the recent Transfer Pricing Amendments, Introduction of the Advance Pricing Agreement regime (APA), Service Tax regime as well as key direct tax amendments.
Addressing the participants on the objective of the session, Mr Vikram Batra, Additional Commissioner, Transfer Pricing and APA stressed that,“The introduction of the APA is a very interesting step taken by the department. The APA is an endeavour of the department to provide tax certainty to the tax payer as it reduces risk of double taxation and provides added clarity to the taxpayer.”
Mr S M Kulkarni, Convenor - CII Maharashtra Finance & Taxation Panel & Vice President – Corporate Sales Tax, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd pointed out, “In the direct tax laws, there are key changes in area of transfer pricing, these have now been extended to Domestic transactions. Companies who have transactions with their group companies will be impacted with this introduction. As for the indirect taxation front, the new regime of Negative List in Service tax is the first step towards service taxation on the proposed Goods and Service Tax (GST).”
A research paper on APA’s was released during the seminar.
During the session on Transfer Pricing and Advance Pricing Agreements, Ms Karishma R Phatarphekar, Partner, Transfer Pricing Services, Grant Thornton India LLP highlighted, “The recent amendments on transfer pricing made in the Finance Act 2012, which included introduction of domestic transfer pricing, clarification of the definition international transaction and other procedural amendments.” In addition she discussed the detailed rules of the APA regime announced on August 30, 2012 and suggested that this a welcome move from the government and will provide a progressive dispute avoidance mechanism for the tax payer. She also discussed that based on the initial discussions with the APA authorities it seems that the government is making all efforts to ensure that this regime is positively and fairly implemented to eliminate the trust deficit factor between the tax payer and tax authorities on account of the aggressive transfer litigation environment.
The other presenters included Amrita Mitra – Partner, Indirect Taxation, Grant Thornton India LLP and Nitesh Mehta –CSD, Walker Chandiok & Co who presented on the recent changes in direct tax as well indirect tax amendments.

The bank has launched three debit cards (International shopping debit card, Platinum Debit Card and Nexgen debit card for minors), two credit cards ( World Credit Card, Co- branded card with Indian Dental Association) and a Student Prepaid card for disbursement of scholarship. These cards comes
with bouquet of features like free Air Ticket, petrol, Surcharge waiver, loyalty points, airport lounge access, insurance cover and many more offers & value additions.
The bank also introduced on-line deposit product for its net banking customers. Central bank Of India is first public sector bank to launch such product. Bank also launched railway ticketing through IRCTC portal.
The card can be used for almost all requirements, be it shopping, buying movie tickets, dining out, fuelling up your vehicle, booking railway tickets, hospitals, on e- commerce platforms- just about any financial requirement, whether planned or impulsive.

Mumbai,Sept.26,2012.(Sachin Murdeshwar):Lalbaughcha Raja is the most popular Ganesh Mandal in Mumbai approximately 70 to 80 lakh devotees visit the mandal during Ganesh Utsav. A Unique Idea was implemented to create a Modak ( Ganesha’s favourite Prasad) using Philips CFL bulbs. A structure about  8’ height in the shape of modak lit up with 2000 bulbs ( combination of Tornado & Genie) has been created & placed at Lalbaugh Cha Raja Mandal. The location selected for the creation is one of the tent which has devotees standing for the darshan , a devotee takes approximately 10 – 12 hours from start to end, at any given time the tent holding the CFL modak will have more than 5000 devotees at any point in time during the festival.

Nandini Tanksale, Chairperson, Cent Sanskruti,Central Bank Of India has inaugurated Painting Exhibition of Mrs. Veena Jain of Bhopal at Jahangir Art Gallery, Mumbai. Famous Journalist Padamshree Muzzaffar Hussain and members of Cent Sanskruti along with other art lover were present on this occasion.

Mrs. Veena is one such contemporary artist who is creatively abstract. She has used botanical colours from the vegetables to concretize her abstract art. Her work retains the viewer’s attention, draws them in and also generates an emotional response from the viewers. Casualness is dominant in her works and it can be said that the artiest has designed the works keeping in mind the final image.

By using only one colour, her paintings depict the subtle differences as it contains the various shades of that one colour and vividly personify the images of reality.

Sunday, 16 September, 2012(Sachin Murdeshwar): Today at Misano, luck did not favour the Mahindra Moto3™ team, when top rider Danny Webb’s hopes of finishing in the points were dashed by a crash on the very first bend.
The 21-year-old Englishman became the latest of many victims of the Misano circuit’s very tight first corner, when he was squeezed and pushed on corner entry, in a high-speed traffic jam. He was unable to avoid a crash that involved three other riders.
But replacement rider Miroslav Popov restored some cheer to the Mahindra garage in only his second race on the white-and-red MGP-30, pulling through from 33rd on the grid to finish 19th, holding his place in the middle of a tight group of three more experienced GP riders.
The 17-year-old from the Czech Republic, riding in place of injured team regular Riccardo Moretti, is a grand prix novice, and a novice also on the 250cc four-stroke Moto3 machine, in the first year of the category.
Mahindra is one of a tiny handful of entrants using its own chassis and engine, developing new technology at the same time as challenging the might of the established racing factories that fill the rest of the grid. It is the first and still the only Indian team in motorcycle grand prix racing.
The race, round 23 laps of the 4.226-km circuit, was won by title leader Sandro Cortese.
 

19th positioned MIROSLAV POPOV said “As seems normal for me, I got a bad start and was at the back. I managed to chase the group in front of me, and I had a good fight with them that lasted the whole race. I had some difficulty changing gear later in the race which made it more difficult, so I am quite pleased I could carry on the battle.”
DANNY WEBB who did not finish said “That was really frustrating – all the effort and the race lasted only a couple of hundred metres. I was in the back half of the grid and the first corners are really tight, and as everyone funnelled in I was blocked and had nowhere to go. I crashed, and unfortunately three other riders also went down … that’s how crowded it gets. Better luck next time.”
MUFADDAL CHOONIA, Mahindra Racing CEO said “It was a shame that Danny was caught out so early in the race as he was having a reasonably good weekend. But the first turn is tight and the Moto3 grid is big so it was always going to be interesting. I am happy about Miro’s ride. He had a respectable race in which many other riders crashed.”
Mahindra Racing is the first Indian team to participate in the FIM MotoGP™ World Motorcycle Racing Championship (in 2011) and the Italian National Motorcycle Racing Championship (CIV, in 2012).
On the world stage, the Indian factory team signed off its 2011 debut season on a high note with action packed performances by both its riders. Marcel Schrötter finished 15th overall in the 125cc Rider’s Championship and the team finished a strong third overall in the Constructor’s Championship. Danny Webb made history when he secured pole position in Valencia in the last race of the 125cc era. The team has taken this learning into its participation in the all new Moto3™ class which replaced the 125cc class from the 2012 season onwards.
In the CIV in Italy, the team competes in the 125 GP Class with ex-Italian Champion Riccardo Moretti. The team became the first from India to win an international motorsport event when Riccardo took the chequered flag at the season-opening race of the CIV in Mugello, Italy on 25 March, 2012. Since then, the team has recorded five victories from seven races with only one round remaining. Having secured second place in the Championship, Moretti has now joined Webb on the MGP-30 for the remainder of the Moto3 season.

Fertita said SIX’s commitment to the series was crucial for the UFC in the market.TUF India will help to introduce the sport in India, to showcase the hard work, dedication, athleticism and skills needed to compete in the UFC.
